Here’s What You Can Expect From The Good Doctor Season 3

Based on an award-winning South Korean drama, The Good Doctor has had people hooked on its first two seasons. Now that the much-awaited season three is right around the corner, we’ve put together everything that fans can expect from this third instalment.

Picked up from its original South Korean counterpart by actor Daniel Dae Kim, the show was pitched to be made in the US and was developed by House MD-creator, David Shore. Kim now serves as the show’s executive producer while Shore is currently the show runner.

The medical drama revolves around Dr. Shaun Murphy, portrayed to great acclaim by Freddie Highmore. Dr. Murphy, an autistic surgical resident who also has savant syndrome, works at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital with a variety of other colleagues and staff. Met with strong TV ratings and great feedback from critics, the show is about to premiere its third season this September 23.

While fans eagerly wait for the third instalment, here’s everything we know so far about The Good Doctor Season 3.

Our favourite characters are all coming back this season
New seasons always come with just a bit of fear that not all of the characters we’ve gotten to know and love are coming back — however, that’s not the case for The Good Doctor. Fans can rejoice as they welcome back Dr. Shaun Murphy, Dr. Neil Melendez, Dr. Claire Brown, Dr. Alex Park, Dr. Aaron Glassman, Allegra Aoki, Lea Dilallo, and many more.

There will be a lot in store for Shaun and Carly
Since the get-go, audiences have been rooting for Shaun to find true love. Could it be with Carly, who the young doctor starts a relationship with in season two? In an interview with TV Insider, show runner David Shore teases: “There will be communication challenges but also great moments." Oh, and we also hear that some drama involving the couple and Claire sparks up as well — so that’s definitely something to look forward to!

Alex and Shaun get closer than ever
In an interview with MEA Worldwide, Will Yun Lee — who plays Dr. Alex Park — shares that Alex and Shaun’s friendship blossoms this season. “We start to see a friendship between him and Shaun developing and it's just an interesting juxtaposition of characters because they couldn't be more opposite from the outside,” Lee shares. "[They are] two characters who are closed off and they find a weird comfort with each other."

Dr. Lim and Dr. Melendez may be in hot water
The last two seasons saw romance between Audrey Lim and Neil Melendez, but with Dr. Lim named as the new chief of surgery in season two, it could mean a lot of complications for her relationship with Dr. Melendez.

Freddie Highmore will be back in the director’s chair
The 25-year-old Highmore is not just a talented actor, but he’s also a gifted director and writer! For those of you who didn’t know, Highmore actually wrote the premiere episode of Season 2 as well as directed an episode as well. This year, Highmore shares with Deadline his eagerness to do so again. "Hopefully I'll write an episode later in the year," he said in an interview. "I'm definitely directing again."
