What's new on FOX+ in January

A brand new year deserves brand new exciting shows on FOX+. This January, we have all things great and new including movies I, Tonya and Sherlock Gnomes; series The Titan Games and The Passage; Asian series Stained; and live sports AFC Asian Cup 2019 and the Australian Open.


The Shape of Water, 13 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong)
Elisa is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab's classified secret -- a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, 20 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong)
Mildred Hayes, a hard-nosed mother is seeking justice for her murdered daughter. With no arrests after seven months, Mildred puts up three roadside signs to goad Ebbing police chief into action. But the law - and especially Sam Rockwell's hot-headed deputy - don't take kindly to the provocation. And the townsfolk are on their side. But Mildred doesn't care about ruffling a few feathers. In fact, she's happy to pluck the whole bird. The movie won numerous accolades including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Original Screenplay at the Oscar as well as Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Screenplay – Motion Picture and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama at the Golden Globe.

I, Tonya, 6 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong)
In 1991, talented figure skater Tonya Harding becomes the first American woman to complete a triple axel during a competition. In 1994, her world comes crashing down when her ex-husband conspires to injure Nancy Kerrigan, a fellow Olympic hopeful, in a poorly conceived attack that forces the young woman to withdraw from the national championship. Harding's life and legacy instantly become tarnished as she's forever associated with one of the most infamous scandals in sports history. The movie won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role and was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role and Best Achievement in Film Editing at the Oscar. In addition, it also won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globe.

Red Sparrow, 4 Jan (Taiwan)
Prima ballerina Dominika Egorova faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers an injury that ends her career. She soon turns to Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons. Egorova emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process. As she comes to terms with her new abilities, Dominika meets a CIA agent who tries to convince her that he is the only person she can trust.

Sherlock Gnomes, 4 Jan (Taiwan)
After a string of garden gnome disappearances in London, Gnomeo & Juliet look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes to solve the case of their missing friends and family.

Competitive Series

The Titan Games, 4 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong/Taiwan)
Inspired by Dwayne Johnson's desire to motivate global audiences to reach their potential both mentally and physically, this inspiring new athletic competition series offers everyday people the opportunity to step inside the Titan arena and achieve the impossible. Every episode, six contenders compete against one of six reigning Titans. They will be challenged in incredible head-to-head battles designed to test the mind, body and heart of our competitors. Sheer brute strength won't be enough. If a contender rises to the occasion and defeats one of the Titans, they take their place and join the elite Titan group. But once one becomes a Titan, they must be victorious every week to keep their spot. In the epic season finale, Titans battle it out against one another in the hope of becoming the last male and female standing.

When a botched U.S. government experiment turns a group of death row inmates into highly infectious vampires, an orphan girl might be the only person able to stop the ensuing crisis.

SMILF, 21 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong/Taiwan)
Bridgette tires to move forward and focus on her future, while attempting to exorcise old ghosts and atone for her past misdeeds. Meanwhile, Bridgette’s mother Tutu rallies from her heart-breaking setback punctuated by the presence of her co-dependent younger sister Jackie. Ex-boyfriend Rafi and his girlfriend Nelson grow closer, while Eliza deals with her own family drama. And have we talked about Bridgette’s beloved son, Larry’s highly unconventional birth?

Stained, 7 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong/Taiwan)
Missing detective Wayne Lau has recently been embroiled in several incidents involving rogue police officers, leaving his wife detective Bo to fend off the investigating officer, the brilliant yet impassive detective Kei. At the same time, multiple incidents of bizarre and violent crimes break out in the city of Hong Kong, drawing the two of them unknowingly down a path leading towards an ingenious trap laid out by the syndicate of rogue cops.

Apprentice, 13 Jan (Singapore)
Aiman, a 28-year-old Malay correctional officer, is transferred to the territory's top prison. At his new job, he is asked to become an apprentice to Rahim, the facility's executioner. Aiman tells his sister of his new position, and she becomes upset when she realizes their father was actually executed by Rahim. Aiman knew this all along. Aiman must overcome his conscience and a haunted past if he wants to become the next chief executioner.

The Negotiation, 25 Jan (Taiwan)
An ace crisis negotiator faces off against a cold-blooded hostage taker. Over the course of 21 hours, she attempts to crack his unusually calm demeanor and force him to reveal his motivations. 


AFC Asian Cup 2019, 5 Jan to 1 Feb (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong/Taiwan)
24 teams will compete in the AFC Asian Cup 2019, held in the United Arab Emirates for only the second time in the competition’s history. Defending champions, Australia, go into this as favourites, but will be without captain Mile Jedinak, and Tim Cahill, who both retired. Japan and South Korea will look to regain the title as the best in Asia, coming off some impressive performances at the recent World Cup. Thailand, Vietnam and debutants, Philippines, carry the torch for South East Asia and will need all the support to climb to the top of Asia’s football mountain.

Australian Open, 14 to 27 Jan (Philippines/Singapore/Hong Kong/Taiwan)
The hottest gland slam tournament on and off the court ignites a new year, off the back of Roger Federer winning his 20th major title and Caroline Wozniacki her 1st in 2017. Will the “Fed Express” conquer another Australian Open and overtake Novak Djokovic to win a record 7th title in Melbourne? Will Serena Williams return to reclaim the crown or will Wozinacki prove she is more than a one-title wonder?
